Prolia (Denosumab) Injection Appointment: Patient Information

Important Reminder Points for Prolia Injection

  • You must not have any invasive dental procedures for 6 weeks before or after your Prolia injection. Please speak with your dentist and prescribing provider with any concerns about the timing of your dental procedures and your Prolia injections.

  • The Prolia injection may lower blood calcium levels. (This condition is known as hypocalcemia.) It can cause muscle cramps or spasms, twitching, numbness, tingling, and seizures. This is why we need to check your calcium level often.

  • We recommend you have your blood calcium level test no more than 30 days before your injection appointment. Please contact your prescribing provider’s office for a prescription for this blood test. This way, you can go to the lab that is most convenient for you to have your blood drawn. Make sure to bring a copy of the results to your injection appointment.

  • If you do not have your blood test result within 30 days, you will need a blood test before your injection. On the day of your injection appointment:

    • First, your blood will be drawn.  You will have the blood test results in 30 to 45 minutes.

    • Then, you will have your injection.
