Your Baby’s Inhaler, Spacer and Mask 

If your baby needs medication with an inhaler, spacer and mask, please use the directions below to help your baby breathe more easily.  

 
 
Using Your Baby’s Inhaler, Spacer and Infant Mask
 
1. Remove the cap from your baby’s inhaler. Insert the 
inhaler into the spacer and shake it for 10 seconds.
 
2. Place the mask over your baby’s nose and mouth. 
Press gently on the mask to create a seal. 
 
3. Press and release the inhaler one time to puff.
 
4. Keep the mask on your baby’s face for 30 seconds
if your baby is calm. If your baby is crying, keep the 
mask on for 1 minute. 
 
5. Repeat for additional puffs.  The doctor will let you know how many.
 
6. After you take off the mask, wash your baby’s face.
Give your baby something to drink. This will rinse your
baby’s mouth. 
 
 
Should you clean the mask and spacer (chamber)?
Yes.  Wash the mask after every use. Clean the chamber once a week or when it is cloudy or foggy. The package instructions will tell you how to wash it. 
 
How do you know when the inhaler is empty?
If your baby’s inhaler has a counter, it is empty when the counter reads zero (“0”).
 
 
The medicine in your baby’s ___________________ inhaler lasts for _________ days.
