After your coronary artery bypass surgery, you will have regular follow-up visits with your healthcare team. It is important to follow the appointment schedule so that you are seen often in the days after your surgery. Expect the following:

  • Appointments will be made before you leave the hospital with all your healthcare team.
  • You will visit with the surgeon during the 1st and 3rd weeks after surgery.
  • You will visit with the heart doctor (cardiologist) during the 2nd week after surgery.
  • During these visits, your incisions will be checked and your overall health will be checked.  Any medications that need to be adjusted will also be discussed.   Continued visits with the heart and/or primary healthcare provider as often as recommended.
  • Ask your doctor about taking part in a cardiac rehab program This is one of the best ways to help you get better after bypass surgery.
