THE CENTER FOR MIDLIFE HEALTH AND MENOPAUSE

About Us

The Center for Midlife Health and Menopause provides counseling, education, and treatment for patients with symptoms from hormonal changes that happen during menopause.

About Menopause

The transition to menopause is marked by physiological changes and symptoms that occur due to hormonal fluctuation. As the activity of estrogen declines and ovulation becomes less predictable, changes in the menstrual cycle and other symptoms often occur. The menopause transition affects each person uniquely; this reduction in hormones impacts both quality of life and diseases of aging. For people who have had their ovaries removed or who have undergone radiation or chemotherapy, this process can be more dramatic with symptoms that are more severe.

Generally, the transition to menopause usually happens in people between 40-60 years old. It may be accompanied by symptoms such as:

  • brain fog

Changes in:

  • bone or heart health
  • menstrual cycle
  • mood
  • hot flashes
  • night sweats
  • sexual concerns
  • vaginal or urinary issues

Our Team

Samantha Dunham, MD and Laurie Jeffers, DNP are board-certified experts with many years of experience caring for pre-menopausal and menopausal patients. They are also Certified Menopause Practitioners through the highly regarded North American Menopause Society (NAMS).

Together, Dr. Dunham and Dr. Jeffers create treatment plans that are tailored toward our patients’ needs and preferences. They may also refer patients to our network of outstanding clinicians in specialties such as primary care, endocrinology, urogynecology, physical therapy, and mental health care.

What you can expect

Upon making an appointment, we request completion of our patient menopause questionnaire to inform our team about your specific symptoms.

Your first appointment will be a 45-minute consultation with Dr. Dunham or Dr. Jeffers. During this time, they will review your symptoms, discuss appropriate treatment options, and create a customized care plan that is right for you. They will also provide you with educational materials and/or refer you to any specialists that may be recommended. If medications or testing is a part of your care plan, they will be made available to you.

Many times, follow-up appointments are recommended to check in and ensure your symptoms are properly managed. These appointments can be conducted virtually through the MyChart mobile app.
